Krk bridge
Krk
is connected to the mainland by a bridge and
is therefore easily and quickly
accessible by taking the main traffic routes via Rijeka and Zagreb in the
north, and can also be easily reached from the south
Krk
Bridge has two arches:
the longer one connects the mainland between the coves of Črišnjevo and Scott in
the area of the Town of Kraljevica with the small island of Sveti Marko, while the
other continues to the island of Krk and the area of the Municipality of Omišalj
The bridge was opened on 19 July 1980. Its length, including access roads, amounts to 1,430 metres, and its height is 70 metres. The span of the larger arch
is 390 metres, which was the absolute world record for reinforced
concrete arches in 1980! The depth of the sea beneath the bridge reaches 60
metres; the greatest depths are beneath the larger arch, that is, between the
mainland and the island of Sveti Marko
Rijeka airport
Krk can be easily accessed by air from many European countries!
The island is home to Rijeka Airport, which makes it an easy-to-reach destination for
travellers from many European cities. In addition to the bridge which connects Krk
to the mainland, this is the second big
advantage of the island in terms of accessibility and transport connections
Rijeka Airport is located 1 km east of Omišalj and
25 km from the centre of Rijeka. Apart from international flights, it also
offers connections to several Croatian towns.
