An ancient villa rustica with Late Antiquity elements of an Early Christian sacral building and early medieval elements.

In a quiet cove on the northwestern coast of the island of Krk, well protected from the bura wind and with plenty of drinking water from a local source, the Romans built a villa rustica (2nd-3rd century AD). This was both an agricultural and luxurious rural building that served for holidays but also for the organisation of agricultural work based on olive and wine growing.

It should be emphasised that this area was quite different in antiquity than it is today, as the present land configuration is the result of flooding and filling.

In Late Antiquity, an Early Christian church was added to the villa. This served the religious needs of its inhabitants. The finding of a pre-Romanesque altar screen pluteus provides evidence of the early medieval period of this sacral building.
