The Glagolitic and the Glagolitic alphabet are the cultural identities of Omišalj, the island of Krk, Croatia.
Organized by the Tourist Board of the Omišalj municipality, this summer, free thematic guided tours of Omišalj will be held in Croatian and English.
Storytelling, as a cultural-tourism product, provides the feeling of an unforgettable tourist experience, legends and stories from the island of Krk that are historically authentic, but adapted to the current place and time. It is an innovative cultural and experiential product that is both a marketing tool and a means of communication.
Have you ever wondered how many cows a handwritten Glagolitic book was worth? Or, did we start recycling on Krk at the end of the last century or have we been recycling for long before that? Join us on a journey through the Glagolitic alphabet in our region, with a special emphasis on Omišalj. We will travel thriugh the story of this Old Slavic alphabet, inscriptions in stone, old, handwritten and transcribed books on parchment, the first printed books - incunabula, missals, breviaries, statutes, registers. We will also talk about our Old Church Slavic worship as a unique phenomenon of the Catholic world. We will see that the Glagolitic alphabet is still used today, especially in the design world because of its exceptional artistry. Finally, in the shadow of the porch of the church of St. Anton Padovanski, we will also try writing in Glagolitic according to the old Glagolitic rules of writing.
